A Personal Review Of The Breitling Shadow Flyback
I bought my Breitling watch about 7 years ago and wear it practically everyday. Regardless of carrying it practically every day, having gone diving with it, kiteboarded with it, and trekked across Australia, Scandinavia and the Far East, it appears pretty much as good today as the day I purchased it.
In all honesty I might by no means heard of Breitling watches till I went right into a retailer to purchase a Tag Heuer - everyone I knew seemed to be sporting a Tag and it seemed like the perfect watch that could be worn both formally and for sport. Anyhow, whereas I used to be within the department retailer looking at the Tag collections, the assistant stated, that if I favored Tag, I might also be taken with Breitling Replica.
Well, it was love at first sight. I know not everyone goes to love Breitling watches. Whereas I think they are stunning, I can perceive why some would not like them. They don't seem to be as 'rounded' as others like Tag or Seconda. Although trendy, they've a sure old fashioned, harder-edged fashion to them. I realized later that almost all collections of Breitling watches have been designed over 50 years ago and, regardless of some adjustments to the movements and minor aesthetic modifications, they're just about the same wristwatch as they had been 50 years ago.
The Shadow Flyback I bought features an ETA 2892-A2 mechanical movement. The movement is a chronograph, is automated and has a flyback complication. Most stopwatch second arms will be stopped after which set to zero; with a flyback complication the second hand can be reset to zero without stopping the timer - it continues to run from the zero position. The power reserve of the motion is forty two hours.
Like all watches within the Breitling Windrider assortment, the bezel is raised and is unidirectional - it isn't a diver's watch where the bezel is one-directional. Nonetheless, the watch is waterproof to 100mm - I have been diving with this watch to a depth of 20 meters so I can vouch for its water tightness.
Although the dial is available in a couple of colours, the one I bought is of a very dark blue which seems to be black unless seen in solar light. There are three subdials; second hand, 10 minute interval and three hour interval. The subdials are the identical shade because the dial and are set in a tri compax configuration, which means they're placed on the three, 6 and 9 o'clock position. The date aperture is discovered between the four and 5 hour marker. I like this format as it is the more unusual in the Windrider assortment; most other watches include subdials on the 6, 9 and 12 o'clock place with the date aperture at the three hour marker.
The hour markers are just that; there aren't any numerals, which provides it a really sophisticated look, I think. The markers along with the hour and minute hand are luminous as is the tip of the stopwatch second hand. Incidentally, the stopwatch second hand is properly counterbalanced with the Breitling 'B' logo.
Finally, this Breitling watch is on the market in stainless steel, 18k gold or two-tone. Mine is stainless-steel (the best end) and comes with among the best watch straps you possibly can presumably buy, the Pilot strap; the marginally diagonal, chunky rectangular links actually are very attractive.
As I've said I've had the Shadow Flyback for 7 years and other than some minor scratches on the clasp there isn't a mark on it. Since, buying it I've become a huge fan of Breitling watches and it's my intention, when I save sufficient cash, to purchase the Navitimer Comsonaute - one other beautiful AAA+ Breitling Replica.
